Top 5 Life: Ways To Deal With A Long Drive


Hello lovelies! Being a 21 year old student who moved quite a few times I have had my fair share of long drives. Whether it's because you want to go home and visit you family or you're going on a fun road trip with a friend - trust me I know what it feels like to sit in a car for up to nine hours. So I thought why not share my top five tips on how to deal with a long drive. Here goes:

Be Well Rested:
The one thing that's essential even before you get in the car is being well rested. There is nothing worse - and dangerous - than being tired on a long drive. Time will appear to go by so slowly and it will be very had to concentrate. I did this once and had to stop at a lay-by to take a nap. Definitely not a great feeling!

Prepare Snacks: 
The first thing you want to do, when you're getting ready for a long drive, is making sure you have enough snacks to last you the whole way through. You want to make sure, if you're planning on taking fruits or veggies (or anything else for that matter), you prepare them in a way you can easily get to. Take a bag or a food box and put them on the front passenger seat, so you don't have to look for them while driving. If you don't want to prepare anything make sure you eat before hand. You don't want to drive on an empty stomach. You never know if you are going to get stuck in traffic or anything like that.

Drinks:
Make sure you have easy to open drinks. The last thing you want to do when you're on the motorway going 80 or even 90 miles an hour, is faffing around with water bottles or coffee cups. I always use one of theses sports bottles you can get at the gym. Also, avoid sugary drinks like red bull or coke. They might wake you up for a short time but once the effect wears off you are going to be even more tired. 

Good Music:
For me, probably the most important thing for a long drive. I cannot drive for hours and hours straight without my favourite songs. If you have a newer car and a Spotify account (or any other streaming service for that matter) you can prepare a long playlist with all the songs you love. If you still have to use CDs - like I do - you can put all you favourite songs on an empty CD and create your own compilation. I also really like to mix it up during a long drive so I usually have one with all my current faves, one with great sing along songs and one with old classics like NSync or Backstreet Boys. Good music makes a long drive so much more comfortable! Again - if you have to use CDs make sure they are easy to get to, if you use your Spotify make sure the playlist is long enough so you don't feel the need to take your phone and look for new songs whilst driving. 

Take Breaks:
This is the one I struggle with the most. Now even though it's probably very good and beneficial to take a break every once in a while and walk around or get some fresh air, I'm one of these people who just want to get to their destination as fast as possible - especially when I'm driving alone.
